Verdigris Design Studio is a full-service architecture firm built on the concepts of practicality, contextual awareness, honesty, and sustainability. Husband and wife team Sean Barrett and Bethany Robertson bring 15 years of experience working on all scales and types of projects, from pool houses to hospitals and everything in between.
Sean’s career began with the interior design of hotel rooms and restaurants around the world before transitioning to the design-build industry to work on high end residential projects in the Boston area. Design-build offered the opportunity to get out from behind the computer and learn how buildings are really put together in the modern industry. Over the course of more than six years, Sean became an accomplished finish carpenter and cabinet-maker while continuing to develop strong design and project management skills. His portfolio shows a diverse array of project styles, from historic renovations that demonstrate careful attention to historical context, to sleek modern projects that focus of simplicity and transparency of materials and methods.
Bethany’s career has followed a different path, allowing her to work on medium and large scale commercial and civic projects such as hospitals, libraries, senior centers, laboratories, and many more. These larger scale projects offer a greater variety of phases and design challenges allowing Bethany to develop skills for every phase of a project from studying feasibility and programming to construction administration. Her attention to detail and project management skills have allowed her ample opportunity to expand her architectural experiences. Furthermore, Bethany’s focus on sustainability and resiliency allows her to lead the conversation on how buildings should look in the future.
